The Met Educator Workshop—Strumming the Imagination: The Banjo and the American Musical Tradition  

Why does the banjo, rooted in early American history, continue to capture the American imagination? Join Met educators and curators in an exploration of the rich musical and visual history of this timeless instrument. Gain insight about the history and traditions of banjo music in America and learn about this instrument’s influence on the music of today. In this interdisciplinary workshop, you’ll discover The Met’s Musical Instruments galleries, listen to a banjo performance, and develop connections with music and social studies curricula.

Fee: $25; includes Museum admission, instruction, and materials. Light refreshments are provided at the start of the workshop. Please note: Advance registration is required. Registration closes on Friday, April 5, 2024, 11:59 pm (ET), or when registration is full.
